Before and After: Re-piping & re-wiring a gas-fired Viessmann Vitola and wood boiler system

Before and After: Re-piping & re-wiring a gas-fired Viessmann Vitola and wood boiler system

The existing system in this house in Vernon, BC had 2 gas-fired Viessmann Vitola boilers, a high efficiency wood boiler, a solar system and 3 storage tanks. In-floor heating, towel warmers in the bathrooms, and one fan coil heat the house. During regular maintenance on the system, I discovered that the wood-fired boiler was not connected correctly to the system and the owner had only very limited use of the wood boiler.

I reviewed the piping drawing, re-piped some of the existing boiler piping and added 2 more pumps to the system. In addition, I had to change some of the existing control wiring in order to complete the system.

The homeowner can now start his wood boiler in the morning and operate the boiler until the night. This easily heats the entire house, including the 300-liter Domestic Hot Water Tank.  During the night the wood boiler can cool down and the ashes can be removed. When the wood boiler is not in service, the 2-gas boilers automatically take over.
