BEFORE: This is a Richmond, B.C. installation. It never worked and was installed without understanding of radiant heat.
The following system components are involved: Poly-B in-floor piping (for floor heat) and baseboard heat (for upstairs zones), as well as domestic hot water & hot tub heating.
This system, as with case #1, was plagued with continuous breakdowns and repairs, i.e. high repair costs, inefficient heat and being absolutely unserviceable (pay attention to pumps and zone valves located behind & between copper tubing).
AFTER: The entire old system was removed and replaced with a Viessmann cast-iron ECD boiler, a Viessmann stainless steel indirect-fired hot water tank, a stainless steel plate-type heat exchanger for Poly-B radiant in-floor heating, a dedicated high-temperature circuit for the high-temperature baseboard heating zones and a dedicated high-temperature circuit for the hot tub heating (left). Further, a 4-way mixing valve with actuator was connected to a Tekmar 363 Reset/Boiler control. The reset control ensures the most available comfort for the radiant in-floor heating system combined with efficiency.
